Guns are a result of the problem. Sadly there are countless accounts of heinous acts of manic violence throughout secular and salvation history. In approximately 3 B.C. Herod had new born baby boys under the age of two put to death by the sword in an effort to kill the Messiah. In 2000, Al Qaeda killed over 3000 without a single gunshot being fired. The problem is, was and always will be mankind’s alienation from God. And again sadly, until that changes we will continue to bear the burden of the agonizing grief and mourning of Newtown, Aurora and Columbine. If we continue to remove God from our everyday lives this will be the result. If we continue to marginalize God’s presence in our lives and the lives of our children this will be the outcome. If we, as a society, continue to worship at the altar of self gratification, we become more like satan and less Continue reading
The Other 50% of Christmas
I heard that a survey recently was taken and approximately 50% of the respondents said that they wish they could just skip the entire Christmas season because of the added stress, financial and social burdens, and seemingly frenzied heights at which we are told to consume. When you put it that way, I am not surprised. But consider what we would also skip – acknowledgement of the greatest gift that our God has every bestowed upon us – the first coming of Christ. This is not just one of those keep the Christ in Christmas rants that pop up (thankfully) each year. It is also a challenge to turn the tide on this trend. Just consider what this celebration has become, how the focus has turned to the celebration and away from the event. I mean there are people who say they don’t even believe in God or Christ – but they celebrate Christmas. That in itself speaks volumes on how wrong they are in their beliefs, and how far we have strayed from ours. And at what point did it become about giving and receiving gifts – at least to the scale that it has? I believe the three kings had it right Continue reading
Tick Tock – God and Time
An objection that many non-believers offer as defense for their ‘no-god’ position has to do the following: How is it possible for a single God to devote Himself to each believer’s needs simultaneously with equal attention? How is it possible, as St. Augustine said, for God to love each of us as if there were only one of us, when there are actually billions of us? Beyond the Christian belief that with God all things are possible, C.S. Lewis describes how this might work by proposing that God does not function in the same time frame as we do: Continue reading
Mo’ music
A friend recently convinced me to listen to mo’ music…music that would be a positive background to my day. And I’m like a parrot once I get a tune in my head. This one has been in there for a couple of weeks. I love the words and music equally which to me makes a perfect song – click the image and read the lyrics if you can keep up.
Take my hand to the promise land
And on You I want to stand
‘Cause I cannot do it on my own
You’re what I need and I need to be
Right by Your side ‘cause I cannot hide

Jesus Christ Superstar
Jesus Christ Superstar – I haven’t seen this entire performance live or film, but I know several of the songs from this play. I particularly love this performance by Carl Anderson (playing Judas) – especially his entrance. But the entire scene is amazing – the dancing, the singers, the set, the outfits, the lyrics and so on….all so ’70’s (click the image): Continue reading

The Parable of the M&M
This experience happened to me while walking to class one day in my college years. I was running a little late, and as I scurried along the path to the building on campus I needed to get to I looked down and noticed a stream of ants in one of the breaks in the sidewalk.
Most of us have probably seen something similar, two columns of ants quickly traveling in opposite direction of each other; from above it looked like a busy freeway scene. There were hundreds of ants going back and forth in a line several feet long, and I soon noticed what had drawn their attention to this crack in the sidewalk and why they seemed to be behaving so efficient and workmanlike: a single M&M candy.
