The Unforgivable Sin

fireThis week masked gunmen entered the offices of a French magazine and brutality executed 12 persons.  As they were murdering these people they shouted, “Allahu akbar” (“God is Greatest”).  As Christians we are taught that once we except Christ as our Lord and Savior that our sins – past present and future – are forgiven.  Yes all of our sins are forgiven.  Even if we commit murder, if in our heart we are remorseful and repent from our sinful ways we can be forgiven.   Some of the greatest biblical figures, like Moses, David and Samson are examples of God’s great mercy to those that have sinned greatly, yet have been forgiven and then used by God to do His work once they have repented.  However there is one sin that God has told us cannot be forgiven.  It is stated in the New Testament directly by Jesus:

“I promise you that any of the sinful things you say or do can be forgiven, no matter how terrible those things are. But if you speak against the Holy Spirit, you can never be forgiven. That sin will be held against you forever.” — Mark 3:28-29

It is also present in the Old Testament in Genesis as the Third of the Ten Commandments:

“Do not take the name of the Lord, thy God in vain.  For the Lord will not hold guiltless whoever takes His name in vain.”

Somehow as this brutal act was being committed in France, I was watching a series of 5-minute videos by Dennis Prager at the recommendation of my Bible Study teacher about exactly this message.  Prager has a brilliant series of short talks on each of the commandments which should not be missed, as they clearly present each commandment, its true liturgical meaning and how it impacts our lives and relationships with each other and God.

So here is the point.  This is where radical Islamists expose themselves as the godless, murdering hate-mongers they are.  If they really knew the one True God, the God of their Islamic father Abraham, they could never commit such atrocities in God’s name, for those who do are condemned to eternal damnation.  No forgiveness, no grace, and no mercy.  You need to click on the link and see this video and read the short summary that follows.  These people are the true disciples of satan and will ultimately dwell with it in the great lake of fire.  Click here for the video.

The Worst Sin You Can Commit – form Dennis Prager series on the Ten Commandments
Not all sins are equal. Some are worse than others. The worst of one of all? Committing evil in the name of God. This commandment is often misunderstood because it’s mistranslated. It’s not concerned with saying God’s name “in vain” like “God, did I have a terrible day at the office.” It’s about using God’s name in the commission of evil. We see this today when Islamists invoke God’s name while they murder innocent people

  1. RT, I’ve tried to make time to write something.
First I am not an expert and don’t want to be one. Many experts end up defending their position instead of moving on in understanding.
Perhaps reading what you wrote was like watching what I thought was a family friendly movie and than being surprised by a scene.
As far as writing something about universal reconciliation or Christian universalism, we’ll see, haven’t done much writing lately. There are many good sites out there that do a much better job at writing on the matter.
Sorry if I was a bit ruff!
See you ALL at the table.
    Bryan

    • Thanks – I don’t mind ruff…truth is truth…ruff or otherwise…it got my attention which is what counts
Maybe you can refer us to one of those many good sites and we can see for ourselves…that’s gonna be one BIG table…RT

  2. Friend friend friend, where have you gone and what is the you write?
Winter has brought us – 45 degrees wind chill bringing me to the key board to make some old rounds and what do I find? Someone once on the verge of believing in Universal Reconciliation returning to the Vomit of, US vs THEM??

You correctly say, “If they really knew the one True God, the God of the Islamic father Abraham, they could never commit such atrocities in God’s name…”
*They don’t know! No one who has the right understanding of the Father and Jesus would “commit such atrocities” and YET what is this ATROCITY we say God will do to those who do such things, BURN THEM ALIVE FOR ALL ETERINTY!!!
*Are we not making God billions of times worse then these unknowing Islamist?
WORSE are we not attributing the GREATEST EVIL that will ever take place, past present or future to GOD? Perhaps this is the EVIL that is done in God’s name that will not be forgiven (for an age), terrorizing the masses with a God of “no forgiveness, no grace, and no mercy”.

    Self righteous poppy cock?

The literal translation from the Greek text reads: “Whoever should be blaspheming against the holy spirit is having no pardon for the aion (has not forgiveness for the age) but is liable to the aionios penalty for the sin” (Mk. 3:29)

Love keeps no record of wrongs, 1 Corinthians 13:4-5

Look in the mirror when you say or feel the self righteousness rise in us when we say: Yes God! throw them in Hell!! those Satan filled blah blah blah!!!

God loves them!!! Don’t give up on them!! God never does! Cry and pray for them. God accomplishes all His will and His will is that all be saved and they will be, if not in this age in the ages to come.

RT, love you man, but somethings are best scraped off the shoes and left outside than bring it in and feeding on it.

    • Hi Brian – so glad you are still checking in to keep me on track. OK, so I got a little caught up in the moment. My primary point was to emphasize the outrageous blasphemy and secondly the connection to Prager’s talk on Commandment Three. I still believe that those men died as ‘godless, murdering hate-mongers’. Thanks for then pointing out that they are still God’s children, though lost souls, and that any consequences of their actions on this earth will ultimately (in whatever age necessary) be reconciled in whatever manner necessary by our loving Father. May God have mercy on their souls and those of their victims. As far as Universal Reconciliation goes, you are the expert. the little I do know comes from you and a few lessons from this site – http://www.pacificuu.org/publ/univ/liturgy/Three_Lessons_Bible_Universalism.html
I would appreciate it if you took the time to post something on the matter for those like me who are still trying to grasp the depth of God’s love for ALL of His children…Sunny and in the 70’s until further notice…RT
